BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Greg Speirs - Commodore
Greg has been a cottager on Lake of Bays since 2013. He is the proud parent of Siena (21), Mateo (19) and Bianca (16). He joined the board of LBSC leading the capital campaign and is passionate about our community club. He learned to sail a Laser 1 and windsurfer at his family cottage club in Quebec. He sails a Hobie Cat at the lake. He and his kids are training to obtain their International Proficiency Certificate to charter sailboats abroad.
Darlene Callingham - Vice Commodore & Secretary
Darlene Callingham is the Vice Commodore and Board/Membership Secretary of the Lake of Bays Sailing Club, keeping things running smoothly from dry land. She’s served on the boards of multiple non‑profits and has been a year‑round Lake of Bays cottager for over a decade. With her husband as a proud club alumnus, sailing has become a full family tradition — her son is enjoying his fourth summer on the water, and her daughter can’t wait to start next year.
Rob Sutherland - Treasurer
Rob grew up sailing and racing out of Oakville Yacht Squadron and instructing out of Harbourfront. He earned his CanSail 5 and Instructors CanSail 3-4 and was certified as an Able Seaman when he sailed over 20,000 NMs and most of the way around the world on tall ships. Rob has previously served on multiple not-for-profit boards and along with his wife Katherine Roup have two boys in Can3 and Can4 at LBSC.
Lara Lever - Junior Programs
Lara grew up spending summers at her grandparents’ cottage just a few doors down from LBSC, where she developed lifelong friendships and a deep love for sailing. A die-hard Lake of Bayser, she came up through the junior program, discovered a passion for racing, and spent seven years on staff—serving multiple summers as race coach and two as head instructor.
Lara earned every level of instructor certification, ultimately becoming a Black level Learning Facilitator and running clinics to train and certify new instructors.
She raced CS30 keelboats out of National Yacht Club for many years and is now an internationally certified skipper. Lara met her husband, Alan—also a former LBSC sailor, race coach, and head instructor—on Lake of Bays. Together, they have three boys (Tristan, Bentley, and Blayne) who are all active racers and enthusiastic members of the club.
For over 15 years, Lara and Alan have proudly organized the annual Alumni Regatta. This is Lara’s fourth summer serving as Junior Program Director.
Peter Coxford - Junior Programs/ Safety
ButtonTodd Stewart - Fleet
Todd Stewart has been a member of LBSC since 2023 when his son Mac joined the senior race team. Neither he, his wife Keltie or older son Rory are sailors, but they’ve fallen in love with the community and have been keen to help the sailing club thrive and grow. Joining the board of directors as fleet manager is just an extension of the support Todd is happy to provide the kids and the program.
Kate Viner - Communications
Kate and her husband, Mike, have three boys who have all learned to sail at LBSC over the past eight summers. Her love for the lake as well as her dedication to community engagement brought her to the LBSC Board of Directors, first as Social Director and now in the Communications role. She loves this sailing club - even if she knows nothing about sailing and insists "main sheet" sounds like it should be a sail, not a rope.
